In keeping with my on-going crusade to
point out just how much things really
cost, I thought this month we should
look at the cost of refreshments. But
instead of stating costs in dollars or
pounds or whatever currency you the
reader may be most accustomed to,
I decided to compare everything to
buying a drink at the movie theater.
Drinks at the movies are typically the
most expensive dinks to be found. So
the way to read the following list is to
see that a carbonated drink at a fast
food chain is about one half the cost
(50%) of the same drink at a theater,
and the same drink at the grocery store
is about one quarter (25%) and so on
down to homemade iced tea (or hot
tea) which is one fi ftieth (1/50) or 2% of
the cost of a drink at the movie theater.
Prices and percentages will vary from
location to location, but the point to
remember is that making the right
choices saves you money.
• Carbonated Drink
at Movie Theater 100%
• Carbonated Drink at
fast food chain 50%
• Carbonated Drink at
grocery store 25%
• Iced tea mix 12%
• Kool-Aid with your sugar 6%
• Homemade iced tea 2%
• Water from tap <1%
So now go and borrow (don’t rent) a
video from a friend or library, watch it on
your TV and enjoy a tall glass of iced
tea (or water!).
